Where has Ron Miller Been?

In From Doug on March 19, 2010 by Doug Walters

As you may have heard, this weekend is shaping up to be a pretty big deal. Our representatives in Washington are on the verge of passing some unconstitutional health care legislation. A majority of the states have already made it clear that they will oppose this legislation if passed.

For some reason, Pennsylvania is not one of them.

Why aren’t our legislators taking a stand?

If you live in the 93rd district you have to be wondering…”where is Ron Miller?”

Even more importantly…where has he been for the past twelve years?

I’m not out to turn this into a mud-slinging contest. I have nothing bad to say about Ron Miller as a person. But when it comes to the job he has done during his six terms in Harrisburg I have to say that I am highly disappointed. Many others have let me know that they feel the same way. Over the past twelve years Pennsylvanians have lost a considerable amount of freedom thanks to our ever-growing, ever-more expensive governments in Washington and Harrisburg. The burden of public debt has increased in record fashion. We are moving faster and faster toward a full-blown economic collapse…and here’s what Ron Miller has given us in this past year:

  • legislation that would require motor vehicles to observe a minimum four foot safe passing distance, at a reduced speed when possible, whenever overtaking (passing) bicycles on the roadway.
  • legislation to specify that any driver who knowingly maneuvers his motor vehicle to intimidate or harass a cyclist or pedestrian, or any driver or passenger in a motor vehicle who directs threatening gestures or language at a cyclist or pedestrian commits a misdemeanor of the second degree.
  • a resolution proclaiming May, 2009 as “Bike Month” in Pennsylvania.
  • a resolution to designate the week of October 25 through October 31, 2009 as “Juvenile Detention Centers Week” in Pennsylvania.
  • legislation to address the situation a constituent is facing. This person rents property adjacent to his for farming. Due to the encroachment of residential property into traditional farm land a neighboring property owner is holding clay bird shoots on his property and the debris is dropping into the fields this person is farming. For various reasons it has been impossible to reach an agreement that would stop this from happening. The agriculture community is constantly dealing with foreign objects (trash/litter) damaging farming equipment or contaminating the food supply intended for livestock this legislation is meant to assure that we protect property owners, and users, while protecting our ability to have sporting shoots and not negatively impact legitimate hunting activities.

While he may have all the noble intentions in the world, it seems apparent that Ron Miller has not done much to deserve his $78,000 salary and extensive benefits package. Where is the defense of our rights? What about a viable solution to the pension crisis? Or a bill that aims to reduce wasteful government spending so that we can balance our budget on time?

The problems that we see in Washington often exist in Harrisburg as well. While the federal government holds our attention, our representatives in state government are busy maintaining the status quo so that they can earn their cushy salaries and get their ten years in so that they can become eligible for a very nice pension.

It is time to hold our representatives accountable, Ron Miller included. If elected I pledge to spend my time in office working to protect the rights of my constituents in the 93rd district. I will produce legislation aimed to protect the people from government plunder (like this health care travesty) and pay off our debts so that we can live our lives without the fear of impending economic disaster. It is time that the people of the 93rd district had a representative that they could connect with. If you give me the chance, I will be that representative.
